Whether you are on your own, moving in with friends or a partner or making a step down a new path, Moving can be an exciting adventure, but in the chaos here are some things to consider.
A month before you move, but after you have signed the paperwork, call all the services like gas, electricity, broadband and insurance to make sure are covered at your new property and this will minimise any delay at the other end.
The night before pack an overnight bag containing your essentials, it makes it easier to find your toothbrush, toothpaste and Pyjamas, when you just want to collapse into bed after a hard days moving.
On the day: Pack your survival kit last and unload it first at the other end. Your survival kit could contain; kettle, tea, coffee, sugar, milk, toilet roll, biscuits, bin bags, scissors, pen & paper. It’s just all the handy essentials that you don’t want to be scrambling about trying to find!
When you first get your keys and open the door to your property, don’t rush straight in and unpack, make sure you do these few small tasks:
• Know where the stopcock in case of any emergencies.
• Take images of the property before your furniture is moved in.
• Take a meter reading when you arrive or a picture of the meters.
• Double check the inventory list is correct and if not make any amendments and ask the landlord or agent to come over.
Finally it is important that you leave the property as you found it when you moved in, or you run the risk of loosing some if not all your deposit.
